Some children are explorers when it comes to eating, others might be foodies and the rest might come across as picky eaters. Whether they are curious about their food, constantly refuse that extra bite or are always picky- eaters, always have realistic thoughts about your child’s eating habits.
Meal times can be fun. Here’s how!
Say no to technology
Children should realise the importance and value of food by concentrating on what they consume. Understanding the quantity of food while eating is important. Meal time should be devoid of screen time; be it television, ipad or mobiles.
Schedule their meals
Children tend to get into a routine once they have a fixed schedule for their meals. Appetite and hunger will come naturally to them when their bodies get used to the flow.
Forcing children to eat – A Big No!
Parents often tend to force their children to eat when they aren’t hungry. This will make them even more cranky and rebellious. To make them eat, don’t offer them candy and chocolates as an incentive. It might have negative implications on them later on. They will begin to believe that if they obey you, they deserve a treat.
Variety and Creativity
You could innovate and try different ways to keep boredom at bay. Kids tend to get fussy when they see regular recipes and food items. Be creative and try food with different shapes, colours and ingredients. Be it sandwiches, fruits or vegetables, you can always make their meal time exciting and healthy.
Let them choose
If there are several items on the table or in their plate, give your children the liberty to choose what they like rather than force them to eat every single thing. Also give them ample time to choose what they want. Let them take their time and do not rush or force them to complete their meal quickly. Kids need time to register and accept what they like and what they don’t
Let your kid know that meal time is a time to enjoy and something to look forward to. Nutritional habits and good eating are a part and parcel of their growing years. This will help them in their overall well being and development.
